Addie Boone, MD, MPH, was selected for this year’s W. Scott Schroth Scholarly Concentration Mentorship Award, where she was recognized for her dedication to student growth and professional development. Students highlighted Dr. Boone’s role-modeling of compassionate, committed care and leadership, and the impact it has made on their own future careers in medicine.

Co-President Preeyanka Rao was selected as the 2026 recipient of the Donald H. Glew Prize at the GW Medicine Research Showcase, awarded for the overall best abstract and poster presentation by a medical student for her project, “Comparison of Asthma Utilizations across Different Medicaid Insurance Plans in the District of Columbia”, which explored disparities in asthma-related healthcare utilization across Medicaid plans in D.C.
Also, big shout out to Justin Chang on a wonderful poster presentation at the GW Public Health Research Day and SMHS Research Day in April, where he discussed the DCISHA Interdisciplinary Case Session held earlier this year, where GW Law, Public Health, PA, and Medical Students came together to tackle a real-world scenario mirroring the challenges that our D.C. neighbors face every day. Many thanks to Alex Abramson, Sarah Anstice, Preeyanka Rao, Sophie Gorup, and Dr. Boone for their work on this project, as well as all the participants who made this possible.
We hosted the 1st Annual DCISHA Founder’s Award in May to honor and celebrate our founders, Alisa Dewald and Anna Buchanan! Alisa recently started her residency in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, and Anna started her residency in Med-Peds at Johns Hopkins. We are so grateful to have these two and wish them the very best as they start this new chapter of their life!
